Cubs go Camping!

Date: 6th Mar 2022 Author: Katie Sturgess

During February half term we had 7 senior Cubs, come to the hut for a sleepover to help them finish off badges they needed to complete in order to gain their Chief Scouts Silver award.

We were lucky enough to be joined by Matt (one of the scout leaders) and took part in a range of outdoor based activities, including planning our meals and going shopping for them. We brushed up on our key scouting skills, with Matt teaching them the dos and don’ts for making fires, and they were the first batch of Cubs to cook on Trangias which is great preparation for Scouts and Explorers. Matt tried to cook bacon in it but unfortunately it was more “scrambled bacon” as the Cubs called it :).

Wednesday night, we pitched tents inside and snuggled down while watching Up, before we turned in for the night. Thursday saw us learning about the countryside code and what we need for a hike, camping trip and a canoe trip. We rounded off our stay with all Cubs achieving the outdoor challenge badge, and some completed the adventure challenge badge. One cub completed his
personal challenge and we also had one cub who completed the last two badges he needed for his Chief Scout Silver Award.

When he got home Daniel said “It’s fun because you get to sleep in tents and
you got to make your own pancakes and pizzas.” We are extremely proud of all the senior Cubs who came to camp.

Well done Cubs!
