Squirrels – 4-6 years

Our waiting list for Squirrels is currently closed. Help us to give more young people the opportunity to join Scouting by volunteering.

We’ve started a new provision for four to six year olds called Squirrels. Squirrels can achieve anything they set their minds to – and they have lots of fun along the way!

Being a Squirrel

Every week, they gather in groups called Drey’s to hop, skip and jump their way through lots of different games and activities.

Exploring the great outdoors

Our one-hour sessions will be a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too. Sessions are packed with outdoor activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life. Of course, none of it would be possible without the support of the amazing volunteers who plan and deliver such an inspiring program.

The Squirrel Programme

Each badge is packed with wow and wonder, perfect for anyone who’s ever asked ‘Why?’ (or ‘Why not?’). You’ll tell stories and play games. Get active and explore the outdoors. Become a brilliant builder and a super chef. There’s something for everyone. When designing the badges and activities for Squirrel Scouts, our goal was to create an age-appropriate programme that:

  • meets the Theory of Change,
  • is respected by Early Years practitioners
  • encourages community and home learning
  • works in areas of deprivation and for diverse communities

Who leads Squirrels?

All of our volunteers are trained to make sure Scouting is safe and open to all. Some lead the Drey week in and week out, and others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.

Squirrel uniform

You don’t need the uniform to join, but once you’ve settled in, you’ll be taking part in exciting activities and earning badges. So you’ll need somewhere to put them! Our volunteers will share information about getting your own uniform.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
